Pope on Salvation

Salvation is open to all, but the way is not easy, pope says:

"Salvation through Christ is open to all, but the way is not easy because it requires a real commitment to love and justice, Pope Benedict XVI said. The pope, speaking Aug. 26 to hundreds of pilgrims at his summer residence outside Rome, said that when Christ told his disciples the gate to heaven was narrow he did not mean it was for the privileged few. "Christ's message goes in the opposite direction: Everyone can enter into (eternal) life, but for everyone the gate is narrow ... because it requires commitment, renunciation and mortification of one's own egotism," the pope said. Christ made clear that people will ultimately be judged on the basis of their works in this world, he said. "The evildoers will find themselves excluded, while those who have done good and sought justice through sacrifice will be welcomed. It will not be enough to declare oneself a friend of Christ," the pope said."

And Carrie, what are you trying to show with this quote?

Standard Prot-Cat difference.

Faith = Salvation + Works (prot)
Faith + Works = Salvation (cat)

Dear Carrie:

Do you truly advocate the Gospel of Deception? What a sad juxtaposition that while folks of the Jack Chick camp claim that Catholics are posing as Protestants in order to undermine genuine teaching, we find a real-life Protestant posing as a Catholic for that very purpose.

Would it be correct to presume, Carrie, that you consider this fine Christian behavior under your "sola" interpretation of scripture? I'm sure you know the phrase "deception shall set you free" doesn't show up in any concordance.

Please know that deception and the Holy Gospel are not compatible. No belief that your opponant is evil or deceptive makes it so.

While knowing that my own witness to the Gospel so often bears my personal stamp rather than God's own truth that with candor I offer sincere prayers for God's mercy upon us all as we seek to repent and follow His divine example.

I remain your brother in Christ,
--Theo

Pope Eugene IV on salvation:

“Whoever wishes to be saved, needs above all to hold the Catholic faith; unless each one preserves this whole and inviolate, he will without a doubt perish in eternity.– But the Catholic faith is this, that we worship one God in the Trinity, and the Trinity in unity... Therefore let him who wishes to be saved, think thus concerning the Trinity. But it is necessary for eternal salvation that he faithfully believe also in the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ...the Son of God is God and man...– This is the Catholic faith; unless each one believes this faithfully and firmly, he cannot be saved.” (Council of Florence, Sess. 8, Nov. 22, 1439)
